We marched for peace

We walked in the Portland Peace March today with some friends. It was a great experience. Thousands of people showed up, according to the news. We made shirts to wear so that we wouldn't have to carry signs. Tania's shirt was a huge hit. It said: "More candy, less war." A few strangers wanted to take pictures of her and a public access news station interviewed me because of her shirt. Talula's shirt said: "War is [picture of bananas]." Mine was a quote by Issac Asimov: "Violence is the first refuge of the incompetent."

Here are the girls at the Max station waiting for friends.

The three of us. I know, it couldn't have killed me to throw on a bit of lipstick or something. I'm Mrs. Frumpy McFrumpFrump.

The girls at the pre-walk pep-rally:

Lu, wondering why the world is the way that it is:

Tania had some fun waiting. There were clowns, dancers, bubbles, face-painting, and just about every weirdo you could find.

Some lady could tell that Tania was a little activist and gave her this sign to carry during the march.

Even Abraham Lincoln was there, holding a sign.

And then there was this guy:

When we finally starting walking, I realized how many people there were. In Hawaii, a few hundred people would show up to events like this. I was pretty amazed at the turnout here in Portland. It's part of the reason that I love this city. People care about issues deeply and are not too afraid or lazy to voice their opinions.

Afterward, we went and got something to eat. Talula was really hungry.

So that was our day today.

Other than that, I have been trying to make stuff lately. Like a stupid dumb stupid stupid scarf. Why, oh why, is knitting so stupid hard? I keep effing up and my yarn becomes useless from being raped over and over again. So I make these with the wool:

Of course, it's just the right size to fit in Talula's mouth, and boy does it break her heart when I take it from her.

Notice her necklace. It's what the cool kids call "woo-woo." It's an amber teething necklace. It's supposed to have magical powers to calm and soothe. It doesn't work by being chewed on, but just by its mere presence. I got one for Talula, one for Tania, and one for me. Why, you ask? Because we are all teething! I'm getting wisdoms (I know, what a freak!), Tania is getting adult molars, and Talula has just broken through some bottom teeth, bringing her to a total of four bottoms and no tops. Basically, my baby will soon look like a bulldog. It doesn't seem like the top ones are in sight, but maybe that's just the magical healing powers of the woo-woo jewels keeping things mellow.

I've also been making these:

Not the animals, the house. The top comes off, and I'm going to make some little peeps to put inside, and a little bag to keep everything in that folds out to be the lawn that the houses go on. I figure it will be a fun toy for toddlers and preschoolers who love to put things in little compartments and then take them all out and start over again.

Oh, I forgot to write about or take pictures at the ballet we went to see on Friday. It was really cute. It was a French ballet about a girl in love with a boy, and whose mother betroths her to a man she doesn't want to marry. It was a school performance, but the acting, dancing, and set were really high quality. I was really impressed.

If you weren't so far away I would steal Lu and keep her for myself. She is so freakin cute. And your (anti)war shirts made me laugh.
